FREE FROM POVERTY campaign

The New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services is calling on our political leaders to show justice and compassion to all New Zealanders. We are asking for a commitment to policies that will lead to real change that frees New Zealanders from poverty.

We invite you to join us as we ask voters and politicans to make choices that will free more New Zealanders from poverty this election.

This critical panel will provide an opportunity to hear directly from political leaders their priorities and vision for social development in New Zealand including our welfare system, employment and training supports and working with the community sector.

Social development spokespeople from across the political spectrum have been invited to participate. There will be a number of pre-prepared questions and the opportunity for audience questions.

ENROLLING TO VOTE 2026

For Election 2026, there have been some changes to how you can vote, including changes to enrolment dates. Things you should know to help support your communities you take enrol: 

  • Enrolling online requires a NZ Driver Licence, NZ Passport or Identity Verified RealMe. Enrolment forms can also be downloaded from vote.nz and then emailed to enrol@vote.nz, or uploaded through vote.nz. 
  • Rangatahi can enrol at 17. This means that rangatahi turning 18 during the voting period are still able to vote! 

Individuals who are concerned about their own or their whanau’s safety can apply to go on the confidential unpublished roll: 

  • All the forms for unrolling for the unpublished roll or moving to this roll can be found here.  
  • You will also need to provide supporting evidence of why you need to apply for the unpublished roll – examples of what you can provide are available on the above website 
  • Once on the unpublished roll, you stay on the unpublished roll unless you request to move to another roll. 

The key dates to vote are: 

4 October – Printed Roll closes  

After this date you can still enrol but your name will not be listed on the printed roll. This means you won’t get an easy vote card in the post 

25 October – Last day to enrol to vote 

Enrolment closes at midnight 

26 October – Voting starts 

Location and opening hours of voting places will be available on vote.nz in October 

7 November – Election Day 

All voting places will be open from 9am-7pm
