Helping community organisations respond to climate change

How will your organisation respond to climate change? There’s plenty of talk about the importance of ‘the community’ engaging with climate change. However, up until now there has been little if any resources or training for community groups and not-for-profits to address environmental sustainability and climate action.

The Grow Seminars programme is offering a 90-minute workshop is for anyone involved in the community sector who wants to encourage their organisation in ‘kaitiakitanga’.

Leading in a Changing Climate: Kaitiakitanga for Community Organisations Seminar

When: Wednesday 18 May at 9-10.30am

Where: Online

Cost: $140 per person (inc GST)

The seminar will enable participants to:

  • form an effective ‘Taiao’ or ‘Green’ team
  • reduce your organisation’s carbon and waste footprint
  • energise people with creative ways to engage
  • assess and address local climate change risks
  • support Tikanga Māori values in relation to Taiao.

Leading the seminar is sustainability consultant Silvia Purdie. She will be joined by Professor Jonathan Boston, Director of the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, https://www.royalsociety.org.nz/major-issues-and-projects/fair-futures/te-tapeke-fair-futures-panel/professor-jonathan-boston)
