NCW

Gender Equality Conference: Driving Cultural Change. 15-17 September

It’s time to walk the talk and register for the National Council of Women of New Zealand conference.

The National Council of Women NZ (NCW) was founded by Kate Sheppard, who helped push for women to gain the vote back in 1893.

Kate was appointed as the President of NCW 120 years ago and her mandate was gender equality.

While it is fair to say New Zealand has made many gains here, gender inequality remains an entrenched attitude in many spheres of life.

Attitudes highlighted by Kevin Roberts resigning as Chair of Saatchis, and the latest Quarterly Employment Survey indicating the average hourly pay imbalance between men and women has widened from 12.9% to 13.2%, to name but a few examples.

The NCW conference offers an opportunity to come together to explore this critical social issue in a 21 Century context.

“Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large”.

The programme is soon to be finalised, but there are a an impressive range of inspirational speakers.

Don’t miss this one and let’s all work together for a gender equal New Zealand!
