World Homeless Day on 10th October is nearly upon on us and NZCCSS members are busy organising events.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is running 14 Hours Homeless events around the country to raise funds and awareness about the reality of homelessness in New Zealand. Check out their awesome video on what it means to be homeless. The 14 Hour Homeless event is happening in Auckland, Napier, Palmerston North, and Wellington on Friday 7th October.
The Wellington Homeless Trust
The Wellington Homeless Trust is also organising how it will mark World Homeless Day to fundraise to sustain their services to women affected by family violence and abuse. Watch Catherine Hannon talking about the valuable work of the Trust.

We need your help to support homeless women in Wellington
The current New Zealand housing crisis is having a devastating impact on our most vulnerable families and individuals. With housing and living costs now at all-time highs, one in 100 Kiwis are now classed as homeless.
The Wellington Homeless Trust is one of the agencies supporting homeless people; particularly women. The Trust provides safe, women-only transition accommodation – the only such provider in Wellington. The women we support are single, on their own and have nowhere to call home. Individual support is offered to them in their transition to permanent housing, for up to 3 months if this is their wish.
On 7 October 2016, people in Wellington will be coming together at 6pm to support World Homeless Day. They will hear from agencies who support people who are homeless and from homeless people themselves. Some of them will then sleep out in a car, on a couch or on cardboard in the street, to draw attention to the situation homeless people face and to fundraise for the local Wellington agencies who support homeless people.

Every little bit counts
All donations contribute directly to ensuring the women who are with the Trust are cared for while they are with us and then get the support they need to settle into their new community once they find a home. To date the Trust has supported 68 women since its opening in 2013.
You can also support us by:
· sharing this email with your contacts to ask for their support, so they can also contribute with a $20.00 donation. We don’t have budget for advertising for donations, so we rely on word of mouth and connected women to share our message
· we happily accept donations of quality household furniture, toiletries, kitchenware – see our website for more information on how to do this
· you could also donate on a regular basis (we’re set up for Payroll Giving, as well as other one-off donations).
