A Nurse Practitioner working working older people in the Horowhenua has helped reduce emergency department admissions from three aged care facilities owned by Presbyterian Support Enliven and Masonic Villages Trust. An evaluation report was published in 2013 and analysed the impact the nurse had made after 3 years in the role. It reported a 28% reduction in the admissions mainly because of early interventions brought about by regular meetings initiated by the Nurse Practitioner (see also this 2014 InSite magazine report).
